Returning to FM radio

When unplugging my iPhone the radio returns to FM but I had been listening to digital radio before plugging my phone in, is this normal or is it something I can reset so it always returns to digital radio?

No such issues with my 2016 car.

Perhaps it would be helpful if you stated your model year in your post or signature strip?
