Hi all,

Just picked up My new 2008 Allure 1.2 Puretech today. Done 13 miles so far... Noticed an unbearable Rattle/squeaking noise coming from the front of the car, when driving appears to be from under fromt dash board but obviously can't be sure!

Anyone heard of this?
Any advice would be much appreciated

Cheers.

Of course, the easiest way would be to take it straight back to the dealer. A video would be helpful for us. I mean, it could be anything (engine related, dash related, engine bay related, suspension related ect)

Yes thank you for reply!

Will of course be taking it back to Peugeot for them to look!

It appears to me to be coming from the front dash board? What is under there? Could there be something loose? Certainly sounds around that area rather than engine or outside of car...
Driving fine so far apart from that did have a strange burning like smell but seems to of eased off? I did read that this can happen at first something to do with the regenerator?

Cheers.

It might be something loose behind the dash, but i don't really know without hearing it. I think the burning smell, is because the car is new. The petrol engine doesn't have a particulate filter, that indeed smells on the diesel during it's first regeneration (but nothing bad).

Let us know how this goes !

Thank you for the advice!

Could you just give me the heads up on whats likely under a dash?

Nothing to dangerous if there is something clanging around until it's sorted?

Ps.. it is obviously when driving there is nothing when stationary or low speed smooth patch of road!

Cheers.

Mackem, asked the garage why the noise wasn't detected during the PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection).
Also asked them how far the car was driven after the PDI.

New car creaks/noises should be sorted out prior to collection by a customer.

Earlier in the forum others had problems with dash noises. I believe ,but can't be certain that the dealers found that a cable behind the glove box was causing the problem. A search on the forum for this may bring more clarity.

Went back on monday took engineer out in it and agreed that there was a noise he thinks metal to metal! Looked under bonnet everything appeared fixed and secured as it should be!

Booked in for monday for them to have it for a few days.. Hopefully get to the bottom of it.

Hi, I have exactly the same issue with my 2 month old 2008 Allure 1.2 .puretech. Was there from new but seems to be getting worse. A tapping sound from the passenger side I think. Anyway, my car is booked back in with the dealers on Tuesday. Will report back. Good luck with yours too. Hopefully we will soon be rattle free!

Yes exactly the same issue! How strange! Sure they will get to bottom of it eventually.. Mine goes in Monday, then just a waiting game until they find the problem.
Not what you expect from a brand new car thst appears to be well made.
Good Luck, let me know how it goes.
I'm assuming it's still running fine just irritating?

Quick update:No joy last week with the dealers. All the obvious things were checked by them. They now want it back to remove the dash etc. Big job so going in Wednesday for 3 days. Watch this space!

Mine was sorted within a day.. Not very technical on the car front at all but they basically started to undo and remove under the bonnet to see what was occuring and as they put everything back together and secured it back up the noise was resolved!
They took it out good 20 miles for a road test with no noise and I've done another 30 miles since had it back and it's perfect.
So inevitably abit of a mystery but glad it's now sorted!
Good luck with yours hopefully a quick find too!

Hi Mackem6

Glad they resolved that for you, can be a tad concerning when a car makes seriously odd noises and not welcome ones especially on a new car.

Steve,

Lets hope they get to the bottom of yours. Don't take the negative comments of some of our members to heart given the chance I'm sure the dealers technicians will resolve it. They don't need issues like this at the best of times.

Kepp your chin up and keep us posted.

All the best with that.

One more thing i forgot to ask. Is the noise dependent on the RPM ? If so, does it happen in neutral ?

Thanks all
Mackem6 glad you're sorted now. Mine goes in tomorrow, fingers crossed.

alex2jz Totally dependant on road surface. Not related to engine speed and does it in neutral.
The bumpier the ride the noisier it gets. Looking forward to a rattle/squeak free future!

Quick update: Car still with dealers. They have got some specialist noise location equip in from the Peugeot Techie people to help locate. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing. Anyway, don't mind being without for a week or so if they can sort it. At least they are taking me seriously. Well, its not a noise you can ignore and its continuous :(

Culprit was an unsecured cable behind the air vent pipe on passenger side of dash. The guys at Arbury Peugeot Lichfield did a great job. Noise all sorted. No marks/scuffs and a clean washed car returned.
Really enjoying driving it now.

Great result Steve,

Go and enjoy, "madam" is over the moon with hers. In fact one of my managers who drives an Audi A6 is so impressed with the 2008, he's thinking of buying one for his missus. You can't allow for some peoples taste

It seems that your memory hasn't deserted you, that was exactly what you diagnosed.

I sometimes wish that my memory wasn't the only faculty that had deserted me..
