I've just installed 'WhatsApp' on my smart phone.

Seems pretty good as you can send photos etc for free using 3G or WiFi....even from abroad.

I've sent photos and selected some of their emoticons. Works well.

Looks fun.

Anyone else using it? I could do with some pointers.

Al.

PS: Here's some info: http://www.whatsapp.com/download/

Have fun.

Been using it for a few years now , it's free for a while then you have to pay for it but it's only about 80p ish, about the cost of sending 3 pictures.

I noticed that. First 12 months free then 69p per 12 months after.

Still a bargain.

I've used the app for years now. Great app to chat to friends on a variety of smartphones. Pretty good reliability too. Hardly any down time of their servers.

Just tested the 'Voice Messaging'.

Hopefully my daughter will get my message and respond.

Photos, messages, voice messages....and all for free (well, for 12 months anyway...
).

Hey, my daughter just responded 'Loud and Clear'.

I've just been told of another similar service: Kik

http://kik.com/

Thing is though all your friends need to be on the same service and WhatsApp is now owned by Facebook (they paid 11.4billion for it!).

I cannot believe how many emoticons are available.

There's page after page on all different themes.

I'd definitely recommend Viber! Totally free to use for texting picture messaging and calls <img src="http://www.2008ownersclub.co.uk/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif" align="middle" /> Edited by: grezza76
