Hey guys,

Peugeot 2008 2014 active diesel 1.6 68kw 5 gears. If you want the vin I'll pm across to anyone.

I am super lost with this at the moment so I thought I'd put a post up see what peoples experience is with this issue...

About 4 weeks back my auxiliary belt snapped I ended up with RAC out who followed me home and I paid out for they RAC mechanics to fix it. They ended putting the wrong belt it which I had to fight with them to put the right size on it. Same day as they put the wrong belt on it the gearbox just went wrong I can't get it in to gear at all. I did highlight this with the RAC mechanic but refused it to be his problem. He came back and put the right belt on it. But the gearbox continued to go wrong. My normal mechanic comes out saw the linkages had broke so we replaced them but 1st 2nd and 3rd in to 2nd was super notchy and couldn't get it in to gear at times so he thought that gearbox had broken the gear linkages and it was a problem with the gearbox.

So we replaced gearbox new oe clutch in it and we back to same issues again. The car when I brought had a recon box it which had barely done 30k on it. Back to same issues of notchy 1st and 2nd and I mean really notchy. I challenged to father today to drive it to remove me as a potential problem and he was having very similar problems to myself with it.

Chances of two gearboxes being wrong are super low the other clutch we replaced was really good shape but we changed as a precautionary measure.

Ran diagbox nothing is highlighted in engine management.

Any ideas? Any questions please don't hesitate to ask either.

Cheers

Tim

Hi,

Thanks for the info.

It's hydraulic clutch and a has standard gear linkages. But I will check that as it seems to get worse the more you drive it so definitely a possibility.

My mechanic says the same thing... Bearing the alternator belt is the other side of bonnet compared to the gearbox. But it's seems to coincidental it went wrong after the belt snapped and it was changed. So yeah I do agree possibly isn't related but is just odd to say the least.

Thank you for your response!

Update... Finally worked it out and it fixed it the issue!

Turns out the gear linkage has adjustments under the gear knob in the centre console. Pretty simple to strip it apart. You need a T20 screw driver and 10mm socket. You pull out the handbrake area and gearknob control bit as well. If you look around online plenty of videos around. Then unbolt the gearknob assembly and your see springs. If you pull back the spring and feel a few mm in front you push retaining box down and then your able to extend the cable. Yes first time I went over kill and pull it all the way out 5th and reserve then didn't work but will a bit work your finally get the length right. Completely fixed all my issues. My mechanic wonders if this has been problem all along and original gear linkage was faulty. Bearing mind we did change it but didn't adjust it. So my car may of gone through 3 gearboxes just because the adjustments won't done it.

But I spoke to Peugeot also who didn't even know there where adjustments on the bottom of it. So I am guessing either a rare case or just really unknown! I'll include a copy of photos of the springs and the adjuster.
